Bangladesh on Tuesday logged1,562 cases while the coronavirus claimed overnight 26 lives, Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said in its routine daily statement. The country counted 4.69 percent positive cases as 33,327 samples were tested in the past 24 hours till Tuesday morning As per data of the DGHS, in the past 24 hours till yesterday morning, combined figure of the deadly pathogen of Dhaka city and upazilas of Dhaka district is 880 while 10 COVID-19 deaths were reported during the same period.
Data of the DGHS also shows, the virus killed 27,277 people and infected 15,45,800 so far, it added. The recovery count rose to 15,04,709 after another 1,603 patients were discharged from the hospitals during the past one day.
The DGHS statistics showed of the people infected from the beginning 97.34 percent recovered, while 1.76 percent died. The DGHS said among the total 27,277 fatalities, 11,881 deaths occurred in Dhaka division, 5,516 in Chattogram, 2015 in Rajshahi, 3,537 in Khulna, 930 in Barishal, 1,233 in Sylhet, 1,341 in Rangpur and 824 in Mymensingh division.
COVID-19 is caused by a coronavirus called SARS-CoV-2. Older adults and people who have severe underlying medical conditions like heart or lung disease or diabetes seem to be at higher risk for developing more serious complications from COVID-19 illness.
