Sweden will help Bangladesh on issues relating to renewable energy, greenhouse gas emission reduction, salinity intrusion, development activities and climate change adaptation and mitigation efforts.
Sweden's Ambassador to Bangladesh Alexander Berg von Linde said these at a bilateral meeting held in the Environment Ministry on Thursday with Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Md Shahab Uddin in the chair.
"Sweden will double its climate finance by 2025," she said. During the discussion, Secretary Md. Mostafa Kamal, Additional Secretary(Admin) Iqbal Abdullah Harun, Additional Secretary (Development) Ahmed Shamim Al Razi and Additional Secretary (Climate Change) Sanjay Kumar Bhowmik were also present. They also discussed cooperation with Bangladesh in some other areas including ecosystem management, sustainable environment, conservation of biodiversity and tackling the effects of climate change in Bangladesh. The meeting identified areas of cooperation between the two countries and emphasized on moving forward together in the future.
The Environment Minister said his ministry has submitted enhanced NDC, finalizing NAP, Bangabandhu Climate Prosperity Plan. He also said Bangladesh is doing it's best to make COP 25 a success. Bangladesh will raise it's voice to provide 100 billion dollar to developing countries annually by the rich countries.
