The Election Commission of Bangladesh is working to ensure violence-free safe environment for voting in fourth and fifth phase of union parishad elections, said Election Commi-ssioner Brigadier General (retd) Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury.
The election commissioner came up with the remarks while addressing the reporters after a view exchange meeting with the officials of administration and law enforcing authority at Shibchar upazila parishad conference room on Saturday. Addressing the meeting, he said, "In the next two phases, there are UP elections in 5 unions of Shibchar and other upazilas of Madaripur. We give the utmost importance to stop violence during the election. Law enforces are working to keep miscreants and outsider away from the election area." "I will request all political parties and leaders to do a research and come up with a conclusion to find out whether it is right to hold local elections with party symbol", the EC added Madaripur Deputy Commissioner Dr Rahima Khatun, Additional Superintendent of Police Chailau Marma, District Election Officer Md Moniruzzaman, Shibchar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Asaduzzaman, Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) M Rakibul Hasan and Upazila Election Officer Md Harun Ur Rashid, among others were present on the occasion.
