Bangladesh recorded highest ever infection rate 33.37 percent on Friday as the country logged 15,440 fresh cases and 20 more fatalities in 24 hours till 8am. The caseload has now stood at 17,62,771 and death toll has surged to 28,308, according to a regular bulletin issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
As many as 46,268 samples were tested across the country in the last 24 hours. The mortality rate against the total number of cases detected currently stands at 1.61 percent. The DGHS said among the total 28,308 fatalities, 12,382 occurred in Dhaka division, 5,740 in Chattogram, 2,075 in Rajshahi, 3,630 in Khulna, 958 in Barishal, 1,286 in Sylhet, 1,378 in Rangpur and 859 in Mymensingh divisions.
The recovery count rose to 15,62,369 after another 1,326 patients were discharged from the hospitals during the past one day.Globally, over 366.58 million people have been infected by the novel coronavirus and 5.63 million have died, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.
A total of 62 Omicron cases were reported in Bangladesh till date, according to the data released from Germany in the Global Initiative on Sharing All Influenza Data (GISAID), an international database organization for the virus. The indomitable Covid-19 has spread to all 64 districts in Bangladesh. The country reported its first case of the virus on March 8, while the first death was recorded on March 18.
