In order to prevent robbery and snatching activities, a clean-up campaign was carried out on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Cumilla's Daudkandi upazila on Tuesday.
The clean-up operation was held on both sides of Dhaka-Chittagong highway's Daudkandi section.Daudkandi Upazila Parishad Chairman Major (retd) Mohammad Ali Sumon inaugurated the day-long bush-cutting campaign on both sides of the highway at 11 am yesterday. Md Foyez Iqbal, Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Daudkandi-Chandina circle, Daudkandi Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Nazrul Islam and Daudkandi Highway Police Officer-in-Charge Md Zahurul Haque were present at that time.
At the directive of Cumilla District Superintendent of Police Farooq Ahmed PPM (Bar), Daudkandi Model Thana Police led by ASP Md Foyez Iqbal started the campaign to remove the bushes. The initiative was taken to prevent the bandits from lurking in the bushes on both sides of the toll plaza on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway. Hiding in the bushes of the road, the robbers try to rob the vehicles at different times.
The police also said that the initiative was taken to prevent robbery and snatching activities happen in the vehicles during traffic jam at night on the highway. It will be easier to prevent robbery and snatching by clearing bushes keeping in mind the safety of the people on the road.
