But there is not enough protection provided by the state in the work places of the media journalists and employees. They often fall victims at the hands of criminals.
In such an incident that occurred at the parking lot of a building housing The Asian Age and the Daily Deshkal two journalists came under attack by gang of drunken youths coming out of a bar, located in the same place.
The youths also vandalized newspaper vehicles on premises at the Old Airport Road before their were handed over to the Tejgaon police. Three youths have been taken into custody. under Tejgaon police station while incident came to notice of police, three drunkards went under police custody and brought charges against them.
In the meantime, Dhaka Union of Journalists Senior Vice President M A Quddus and General Secretary Akter hossain visited the newspapers. DUJ leaders assured the journalists of the two newspapers of every cooperation in restoring better working condition there.Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) President Omar Faruk has expressed concern over the attack on journalists of The Asian Age and the Daily Deshkal on Wednesday. He said BFUJ is aware of the incident. "We want the criminals are brought to book," he said.
BFUJ Secretary General Deep Azad has demanded that the law enforcement agencies immediately act to ensure protection of journalists.DUJ President Sohel Haider Chowdhury and General Secretary Akter Hossain on Wednsday in a joint statement expressed dismay at the attack on journalsists by the drunken youhths, who also vandalized press vehicles.
The journalist leaders urged the law and order enforcement agencies to take stern action against the persons responsible for the attack.
