Govt to adopt environment-technology in livestock sector: Rezaul


Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim on Sunday said the government will adopt environment-technology and other procedures in the country's livestock sector."To this end, the cooperation of the World Bank and other development partners is needed to make the common people familiar with the technology and create awareness in the long run. The people of Bangladesh will welcome any technological development in the livestock sector and they will apply those," he told a workshop here, BSS reports.

The Department of Livestock and the World Bank jointly arranged the workshop titled 'Clean and Energy Efficient Cooling for Livestock Supply Chain in Bangladesh' at a city hotel.Speaking as the chief guest, Rezaul said Bangladesh incurs a huge loss and damage each year due to natural disasters induced by climate change. "We are not responsible for the global climate change...but we are the worst victim of climate change," he said.

That is why, he said, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina placed specific proposals at the latest International Climate Conference, suggesting taking steps to cope with adverse impacts of climate change and provide support for the affected countries.The livestock minister said the present government and the country's technical experts have been working sincerely for the development of the livestock sector. In continuation of this, formation of Poultry and Dairy Development Board and enactment of related laws are under process, he said.

Rezaul said the government will meet all the needs required for the overall development of this sector.Fisheries and Livestock Secretary Dr Mohammad Yamin Chowdhury and director of the Livestock Department (Dairy Development Project) Abdur Rahim, among others, spoke at the meeting with director general of the Department of Livestock Dr Monjur Mohammad Shahjada in the chair.World Bank Consultant Siddiqa Bhuiyan Mishu presented a keynote paper at the workshop. Livestock and dairy development project activities were presented by the project's chief technical coordinator Md Golam Rabbani.
