At least six people were killed on Monday in a fire which swept through a building that houses a plastics factory and a restaurant in Old Dhaka's Chawkbazar.
According to fire service sources, the incident took place at Kamalbagh around 12pm.
Identity of the victims could not be known immediately.
After the fire break out, six fire fighting units immediately rushed to the spot and started works and then more two units joined with them.
"A total of eight fire fighting units located at Lalbagh and its headquarters Sadarghat rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control at around 2:20pm," said Dewan Azad, duty officer of fire service control room.
The fire service immediately could not confirm how the fire originated, but the local people confirmed that the fire originated from a cylinder explosion of a restaurant.
According to locals, a restaurant occupied the ground floor of the four-storey building, while a factory and storage for plastic toys and polythene were on the upper floors.
The authorities are looking into the cause of the fire and the extent of the resulting damage.
