Journalist's mother slaughtered in Tangail

Police recovered the throat-slit body of a woman from her own house in West Bhuapur municipality area under Bhuapur upazila of Tangail district on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Sultana Suraiya, 65, wife of freedom fighter late Rahim Akhand and mother of Abu Shyem Akand, news editor of English daily The Business Standard.

According to locals, Suraiya lived alone in the house. On Thursday evening, neighbors and family members found her phone switched off. Later, they went to the house and found her lying on the floor. Later, police came and recovered the body.

"My mother lived alone in the house. There was no enmity with anyone. Drug addicts can come to steal and do this. I demand a thorough investigation into the incident and immediate arrest and exemplary punishment for those involved," said Shyem.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bhuapur Police Station Ahsan Ullah, said the body of the deceased was recovered from the spot and sent to Tangail General Hospital morgue for post-mortem.
