Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Acting Chairman and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia's eldest son Tarique Rahman has been living in London, United Kingdom since 2008. Reports have surfaced that Tarique Rahman has been leading a very luxurious life in London which is being facilitated by the money siphoned off from Bangladesh by oligarchs and financial fraudsters. Reportedly Tarique Rahman has amassed assets of around 500 crore taka overseas.

Tarique Rahman's academic qualification is too unremarkable to mention. On the other hand, Tarique Rahman's wife Zubaida Rahman is a physician by profession who is highly educated. However, Tarique Rahman does not want his wife to join politics because his wife is most likely to overshadow him in the political field as feared by Tarique Rahman.

While BNP was in power from 2001 to 2006, Hawa Bhaban held utmost control on everything in Bangladesh including administration, financial affairs, politics, business and what not! Hawa Bhaban was Tarique Rahman's den. Tarique Rahman conducted all his filthy and foul activities from Hawa Bhaban. Militancy and terrorism arose all over Bangladesh during BNP regime from 2001 to 2006. A lot of repression on religious minorities also cracked down hard during that period. Bombs blasted throughout Bangladesh in August 2005 particularly on courts of all districts in which some judges and lawyers were killed.

Tarique Rahman, inquiries have shown, was directly associated with the grenade attacks on Awami League rally on 21 August 2004 which was an attempt on the life of Sheikh Hasina who was opposition leader at that time. But no sanctions or visa restrictions by powerful countries were imposed on the perpetrators who established a reign of terror in Bangladesh during the above tenure of BNP.

It may be recalled that former President Ziaur Rahman launched BNP in light of the norms and principles of Chinese Communist Party. A lot of Bangladeshi politicians who believed in Chinese communism packed hands with Ziaur Rahman. That's why BNP and China have been intimate allies since Ziaur Rahman's time till today. China opposed Bangladesh during the Liberation War of 1971. China recognized Bangladesh after Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was assassinated. Bangabandhu never visited China after Bangladesh's independence.

Prominent citizens have stated that corruption and irregularities in Bangladesh's banking and financial sectors must be reined in immediately so that people like Tarique Rahman cannot play inauspicious gambits with the fate of Bangladesh from abroad. Laundered money in most cases is spent for augmenting terror finance and radicalism.

Haroon Habib, General Secretary of Sector Commanders Forum said, "Illegal money transfer from Bangladesh must be stopped so that the enemies of the country cannot execute their plots."

Eminent social activist and academic scholar Mahfuza Khanam said, "Conspiracies both at home and abroad are going on to jeopardize Bangladesh. Foreign powers are meddling with the internal issues of Bangladesh. This should not be allowed to go on".

Renowned legal expert Dr. Shah Deen Malik said, "Graft and anomalies in banks and financial institutions are going on incessantly in Bangladesh. The regulatory authorities should come up with strong and quick actions to stop money laundering and other forms of financial vices. Illegally acquired money helps culprits with their vicious intrigues."
