Plaintiff's mysterious death

Police recovered the hanging body of Mirza Afroza Esha from her residence in Boali, Tangail, on Saturday. College student Esha is the plaintiff in a rape case against Golam Kibria Monir alias Boro Monir, vice president of Tangail City Awami League (AL). Esha had filed the rape case against the AL leader on April 5 this year at the Sadar police station.

Esha's sister Luna Mirza said she had last spoken to the deceased over the phone the night before at 12. The next afternoon she was informed that Esha had locked her room. The family members tried to break into the room but failed. Tangail Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sheikh Abu Salam Mia said the police will reveal further information on the matter after the autopsy report arrives.

The details of the case reveal that Boro Monir had raped the plaintiff on December 17 last year. As a result she became pregnant. Later, the accused once again tried to rape her. Golam's wife Nigar Aftab was also named in the case as an accused in the torture of the girl.

On October 9 this year, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court upheld a High Court order that on July 11 granted bail to Boro Monir in the rape case. The apex court passed the order after examining the DNA test report that stated that Golam Kibria is not the biological father of the child of the rape victim.
