JnU First woman Vice-Chancellor Sadeka Halim
Rakibul Islam,JnU Correspondent : The new vice-chancellor of Jagannath University is Professor Dr. Sadeka Halim Chowdhury of Sociology Department of Dhaka University. He is the sixth Vice-Chancellor of the University.


The President gave this appointment to Sadeka Halim on Thursday. The Ministry of Education has issued a notification in this regard today.


According to the notification signed by Rokhchana, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Education, according to Article 10 (1) of the Jagannath University Act, 2005, Professor Dr. Sadeka Halim has been appointed as the Vice Chancellor of Jagannath University. His term of appointment as Vice-Chancellor is four years. However, where applicable, he shall complete the remainder of that term after completing the formalities of retirement by reverting to the original post on attaining the age of regular service. The post of Vice-Chancellor will receive pay and allowances equal to his current post and enjoy other benefits attached to the post as per rules.


The announcement also said, Dr. Sadeka Halim will be based on the university campus full-time as the chief executive of the university. The President can cancel this appointment at any time if necessary.


According to the sources of the office of the vice-chancellor of the university, after the establishment of the university in 2005, the chairman of microbiology department of Dhaka University Professor Sirajul Islam was given the responsibility of the first vice-chancellor. Then from 2008 Professor Abu Hossain Siddique of International Business Department of Dhaka University served as the second Vice-Chancellor. In 2009, the government appointed Professor Mesbah Uddin of Dhaka University as the third vice-chancellor. In 2013, the government appointed Prof. Mizanur Rahman as the fourth vice-chancellor. Professor Dr. Imdadul Haque was appointed as the fifth vice-chancellor of the university on March 18, 2021. Professor Dr. Sadeka Halim Chowdhury was appointed as the sixth vice-chancellor when professor Dr Imdadul haque passed away on November 11 during the treatment of cancer. She is the first woman vice-chancellor of the university.
