Bangladesh Women Football Team outplayed visiting Singapore 3-0 in the first match of the two-game FIFA friendly series at the Bir Shrestha Shahid Shipahi Mustofa Kamal Stadium at Kamalapur in Dhaka on Friday.
Bangladesh dominated against the side 12 ranked better than them from the beginning and could easily get a few more goals.
Tahura, the diminutive forward from Mymensingh's Kalsindur school, scored one each in either half while Afeida Khandakar added the other to give Bangladesh the lead in the series.
Afeida put Bangladesh ahead in the third minute with a header on a precise cross of skipper Sabina Khatun from the left flank.
Tahura doubled the advantage in the 16th minute after brilliant work from Maria Manda who dribbled past a couple of defenders at the edge of the box before Tahura calmly rolled it into the net.
Five minutes before the half hour mark, Sabina tried her luck from 25 yards but the effort flew inches wide off the post.
Tahura extended the lead at the hour mark with a fantastic finish over the keeper after Masura Parvin set her free inside the box with a defence splitting long ball.Maria squandered a good chance in the 73rd minute shooting wide from an unmarked position before the Singapore keeper made a double save soon after to limit the loss.
Captain Sabina earlier said their 3-0 defeat in a friendly match against Singapore three years back was a bitter experience but was optimistic of victory this time. The performance justified Sabina's claim at the pre-match conference that the current team are more balanced than before and improved in all technical, tactical and physical aspects.
Experienced forward Krishna Rani Sarkar was absent due to injury but it was no problem for Tahura, Sabina, Sanjida Akter and Rituporna Chakma during the attacks.Rupna Chakma, arguably South Asia's best goalkeeper, had little to do between the sticks as Singapore barely created any goalscoring opportunity.
The second and last match of the series will take place at the same venue Monday.
