State Minister for Commerce Ahsanul Islam Titu on Sunday said prices of essentials will remain under control during the holy month of Ramadan. "The government is taking various initiatives including market monitoring and ensuring smooth supply of goods to keep prices of essential commodities under control during the month of Ramadan," he said. "We hope prices of essentials will remain under control due to sincere efforts of the government," Titu said this while responding to a supplementary question from Jatiya Party lawmaker Masud Uddin Chowdhury in the parliament.
Nobody would be able to manipulate markets during the month of Ramadan, if smooth supply of essentials is ensured, the state minister added.
Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) will sell five common commodities including rice, pulse, oil and date during the upcoming Ramadan, he said, adding "TCB's initiatives to sell these products will help common people significantly."
