After long 24 years of remaining out of operation, the grain silo in Brahmanbaria's Ashuganj, which is country's second largest storage installation of wheat, has revived after the completion of BMRE (Balancing, Modernization, Rehabilitation and Expansion) with a cost of around Tk 47 crore.
Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder on Thursday (June 20) inaugurated the renovated silo in a function with Brahmanbaria Deputy Commissioner (DC) Habibur Rahman in the chair.
Brahmanbaria-2 MP Moin Uddin Moin, Food Secretary Md Ismail Hossain, Director General of the Directorate General of Food Md Shakhawat Hossain, Additional Director General of the Directorate General of Food Abdullah Al Mamun, Brahmanbaria SP Md Shakhawat Hossain, Ashuganj Upazila Parishad Chairman Ziaul Karim Khan Saju and Ashuganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Shyamal Chandra Basak were present at the inaugural ceremony.
Food Directorate sources said, most of the wheat imported from abroad by the government are unloaded in 50,000MT-capacity Ashuganj silo which was set up in 1967 on 39 acres of land under Charchartola Mouza under the upazila.
