Rayhan Abid, BAU, Correspondent: Students of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) blocked the Dhaka-Mymensingh railway to demand the abolition of the quota system in government jobs. They blocked the railway track near Jabbar Mor Meanwhile, the Mahua Express train heading to Mohanganj stopped for about an hour, causing hundreds of passengers to suffer. They protested against quota reinstatement and demanded the cancellation of all quota systems, except for those applying to disabled and backward ethnic groups.

In the assembly, the students stated that after 53 years of independence, the quota system cannot continue in its current state. At present, no quota is required except for the disabled and minorities.

Speakers said that the field of talent should be leveled. If talented people are unemployed, the country will go backward. Equality in recruitment to public service is a fundamental constitutional right for all. Currently, the attempt to reinstate the old quota system will hinder the access to this basic right. The conscientious student society is against such discrimination.
