Bangladesh Ready to Purchase 40MW of Electricity from Nepal: NEA and BPDB Set to Finalize Agreement
The Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) has formally approached the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) expressing keen interest in procuring 40MW of electricity generated in Nepal. In a recent communication, BPDB confirmed the approval of NEA’s bid to supply the specified amount of electricity for a duration of six months during the rainy season.

According to sources, BPDB’s letter to NEA indicated readiness to proceed with the necessary agreements for the electricity purchase. NEA now awaits formal acceptance from BPDB, following which the draft agreement will be shared, and the final agreement is expected to be signed within 28 days.

Kulman Ghising, Executive Director of NEA, affirmed that all procedural formalities have been completed to facilitate the export of electricity to Bangladesh starting this rainy season. Ghising also mentioned ongoing preparations for a tripartite agreement involving Nepal, India, and Bangladesh to streamline the energy exchange process.
