BAU Correspondent: Students ofBangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) blockaded the Dhaka-Mymensingh railwayfor the fourth day as part of the nationwide daylong "BanglaBlockade" program.
On Wednesday(July 10) at 10:45 a.m. as part of the program, students of BAU blocked the"Tista Express" train bound for Dewanganj from Dhaka. Hundreds ofpassengers on the train suffered. Earlier, the students organized a protestmarch in front of the Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin Auditorium, which concluded atJabbar Mor. Meanwhile, the students of BAU organized a press conference at 1:30p.m. to protest the postponement of the High Court's verdict on the quotasystem for four weeks.
On behalf of thestudents, Iran Mia stated 'today the student community is conducting anationwide movement on one point and one demand. We, the student society willnot accept any postponed decision.
He also said thatour one-point demand is to abolish unreasonable and discriminatory quotas inall grades of government jobs. we will not leave the streets until the quotasystem is logically reformed by passing the law in the parliament.'
In his appeal tothe Great National Parliament through the executive department, he said, thatthe quota system should be reformed and reduced to the lowest level. Heproposed presenting this reform as a bill to enact a law. Additionally, herecommended providing an opportunity for the student society of Bangladesh toreturn to the reading table.
Another studentnamed Masharat Maliha said in the movement, we are moving forward in the pathof building Smart Bangladesh. Even after all these years of independence, ifany group has to be given 'special facilities' it shows our weakness as anation. True freedom fighters love this country. Just as a mother can neverdiscriminate between her children, the freedom fighters will never wantdiscrimination between the children of her Bengali mother.
Meanwhile, thestudents warned that the movement would continue until the demands for quotareform were met. They emphasized that the student community would not toleratediscrimination in employment that deprives talented individuals ofopportunities.
