Fisheries and Livestock Minister Md. Abdur Rahman has said that the government is working hard to expand the dimension of exporting fish overseas and thus to boost earnings through foreign currencies for Bangladesh.

Md. Abdur Rahman made the above remarks while addressing a program in the capital's Hatirjheel on Wednesday as chief guest jointly organized by Fisheries Division and Bangladesh River Police.

Md. Abdur Rahman said, "Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman once said that fish would be our second largest source of earning foreign currencies. The present government has been working in light of Bangabandhu's statement. We have become self-sufficient in fish. Now we have to pay more attention to broaden the scale of exporting fish to foreign countries. We have to bring all rivers, canals, fens and ponds under our supervision to enhance the production of fish." Bangladesh targets to produce 65 metric tons of fish by 20230, Md. Abdur Rahman stated. The minister sought help from journalists and conscious citizens to stop the use of banned things like current fishing nets and china nets.

Md. Abdur Rahman informed that this year 6 gold medals, 8 silver medals and 8 bronze medals were awarded to 22 individuals and organizations as recognition for their hard work for the advancement of the fisheries sector in Bangladesh.

Fisheries and Livestock Ministry's Secretary Sayeed Mahmud Belal Haider, the same ministry's Additional Secretary Md. Tofazzal Hossain, Additional Secretary Md. Abdul Quyum, members of Bangladesh River Police and some other dignitaries attended the event.
