Popular actors, actresses, directors, models, photographers and other showbiz celebrities have decided to support the agitating students across Bangladesh who have been demonstrating for more than three weeks against discrimination in the recruitment process of government jobs with 9-point demands.
Reputed actress Azmeri Haque Badhon issued a press release to mass media on Wednesday on the letterhead of "Visible Artistes Society" regarding the above decision taken by celebrities.
According to the press release, the showbiz stars will carry out a protest program today (1 August 2024, Thursday) at 11 am in front of the Bangladesh Parliament. They are going to condemn the killings, countrywide violence, mass arrests and harassment that have been going on throughout Bangladesh.
Today's program will be attended by Akram Khan, Mostafa Sarwar Faruki, Nurul Alam Atik, Azad Abul Kalam, Azmeri Haque Badhon, Nusrat Imrose Tisha, Sabila Nur, Amitav Reza Chowdhury, Redwan Rony and some other renowned entertainers.
The protesters will ask the government to prosecute all killings, to stop firing at students, to stop mass arrests and to release all students detained over the quota agitation without delay.
The artistes and celebrities who will be joining today's program in front of Jatiya Sangsad believe it is everyone's constitutional right as Bangladeshi citizens to lead a safe life supported by justice. They added that the glorious Liberation War of 1971 was fought to establish equal rights for all.
