Market manipulation report will be released: SEC chief

Market manipulation report will be released: SEC chief

The Securities and Exchange Commission, or SEC, will release a report on the investigation into irregularities, manipulation, and corruption in the stock market, says SEC Chairman Khondokar Rashed Maqsood.

"The report will be prepared by a newly formed investigation and inquiry committee," he said during a press conference at the commission office in Agargaon, Dhaka, on Monday, bdnews24 reports.

Members of the five-member investigation committee say they will also perform their duties with transparency in the case of companies that pose the issue of conflicts of interest.

Responding to a query about the inclusion of senior members from companies with interests in the market, Maqsood said any committee member with conflict of interest will abstain from investigations involving their company. The SEC chief said the terms of reference, or TOR, for the committee's work are yet to be finalised.

These terms will outline the committee's responsibilities, objectives, and powers, he added.

Maqsood said it has not been decided whether committee members will work in small teams for each company or as a single unit to prepare the report.
"We have only formed the committee. The scope of work and how the committee will execute its tasks will be specified later," he added.
