Loan agreements made with foreign companies in energy sector during the Sheikh Hasina government will be reviewed and disclosed in the economic white paper, says economist Debapriya Bhattacharya.

"If we have access to various agreements, we will undoubtedly review them. This is particularly being considered for the energy sector," he said during a press conference at the planning ministry on Tuesday, bdnews24 reports.

Earlier, there were accusations of misuse of public funds by the government through an 'unequal agreement' with India's Adani Group.

Several groups had demanded the cancellation of the power deal with the Adani Group.

The interim government formed a 12-member committee to publish a white paper on the country's economic situation.
The committee, headed by Debapriya Bhattacharya, held its second meeting on Tuesday.

On Nov 5, 2017, Bangladesh's Power Division signed an agreement with Adani Power to purchase electricity.
Under the agreement, the first unit of Adani Group's coal-based power plant in Godda, Jharkhand, began transmission to Bangladesh's national grid in March 2023.

The electricity will be routed through transmission lines in Chapainawabganj and Bogura.
However, Transparency International Bangladesh, or TIB, has labelled the deal as 'unequal, opaque, and discriminatory' and demanded a review.
It said the final burden of this agreement will fall on the public.

The TIB suggested a detailed analysis of the contract's terms, potential amendments, and cancellation if necessary.
At that time, BNP, Gano Forum, and some other political parties, voiced objections to the deal.
