The Editors' Council has demanded the cancellation of all black laws that are repressive to journalists.

The editors made the demand during a meeting with Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus at the state guest house Jamuna in the capital on Tuesday (3 September).

During the meeting, Dr Yunus emphasised his strong belief in press freedom, urging the media to maintain transparency in its coverage, especially when critiquing the government.

Chief Advisor's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam briefed reporters about the meeting later at the Foreign Services Academy.

President of the Editors Council and The Daily Star Editor Mahfuz Anam said that the council seeks to establish national unity and has proposed reforms in various areas, including the constitution. He also called for an end to the filing of murder charges against journalists.
