What may be the answer if an average guy is asked this question—“Are you happy with the sort of life you are leading?” Really, it would be difficult to guess a reply acceptable to all. Even in some cases answers from some people may surprise us. People with a leaning towards William Shakespeare may speak out words like “Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage and then is heard no more: it is a tale told by an idiot full of fury and sound signifying nothing……”. I don’t know what made Shakespeare express so much despondency about life through the soliloquies of Macbeth. If a great playwright like Shakespeare was so cynical towards life perhaps we shouldn’t blame ordinary human beings for their negative mindset on this issue.
We often seem to get pissed off with life but it scares the hell out of us when a false shadow of death appears before us even in our shortest nightmares. We wake up abruptly with a tremor all over, with sweat rolling down our spines and we calm down as we find ourselves in good shape.
Grievances give us an ugly pleasure while appreciations often fail to sweeten our mood. Life is valueless to us until it’s about to be taken away. The more we suffer the more we love life. When someone’s hardship reaches the peak, that person apparently loses the willingness to live any more. In fact it’s wrong. When the light of life begins dimming, we subliminally tighten our grips on life. We don’t intend to let go of it. It’s like a mother who is always pestered by her mischievous child so much that at times she shouts curses at the kid or even beats up her child. But when her anger subsides she sits close to her child, lays him or her on her lap, wipes away his or her tears, promises to buy toys to make her kid smile. Our occasional contempt of life is something like the skirmish of a mother with her child.
The amusements as well as the agonies both are endless for them. So, even divine superiority comes with a perennial endurance of pain. Really, this envy of humans from the gods and deities make me feel proud and elevated. It was all mythology, so what? Life itself is the biggest and most precious gift on earth. Let’s value our own lives and pay due honour to the life people around us have chosen.
