Bashir Shahriar,JnU Correspondent: Professor Dr. Md. Rezaul Karim has been appointed as the 7th Vice-Chancellor of Jagannath University. The announcement was made on Thursday, September 18, in a notification signed by Deputy Secretary Shahinur Islam, under the direction of the Honorable President of Bangladesh.
According to Section 10(1) of the Jagannath University Act, 2005, Dr. Md. Rezaul Karim, a retired professor of the Social Work Department at Jagannath University, has been appointed to the position of Vice-Chancellor.
Dr. Rezaul Karim holds a PhD from Tsukuba University in Japan. He completed his undergraduate and graduate studies in Social Welfare from Dhaka University.
Throughout his career, Dr. Rezaul Karim has held several prominent academic positions. From 1986 to 2005, he served as the Chairman of the Social Work Department and Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at Rajshahi University. Later, he also served as the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at Khulna University. In 2008, he joined JnU as a faculty member, where he served as Chairman of the Social Work Department and Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences. During his tenure, he played a crucial role in formulating important university policies and regulations.
JnU teachers, students, and staff had previously organized various campaigns demanding the appointment of a VC from within the university. These initiatives included mass signatures, leaflet distribution, postering, and sit-ins. Finally, with the appointment of the VC from JnU, widespread excitement and enthusiasm spread among all involved.
