A human chain was staged at Chowrangi Smrity Omlan Chottor in Nilphamari on Thursday noon demanding implementation of 10th grade of primary assistant teachers on the basis of fairness.
Primary School Teachers of Nilphamari PTI and the other teachers of the district have arranged the human chain.
A total of 1,000 teachers from different upazilas have joined the programme spontaneously though it was raining heavily.
Addressing the programme, they spoke about their agonies to bear the expenses of their families with salaries of the 13th grade.
Saiful Islam Manik, an assistant teacher of Sadar Upazila, said, "Primary school is the foundation of a student. The country won't get skilled students if we can't ensure quality education. But we are deprived of our proper rights. This discrimination should be solved soon."
Ripon Islam, an assistant teacher of Jalkhaka Upazila, said, "The society is progressing but our lives standard is degrading day by day. Now it is very hard to cope with the price of daily commodities. But the country won't progress if it doesn't invest in the education sector adequately. I request the policy makers to focus on the sector if you genuinely want to get a developed country."
Sima Roy, an assistant teacher of Dimla Upazila, said, "10th grade is not our demand. Rather it is our valid right. So, this problem should be solved very for the satisfaction of all the assistant teachers."
Md. Habibur Rahman, an assistant teacher of Sadar Upazila, said, "There is no discrimination in the present interim government. The government nurses get 10th grade salary though their educational qualification is not higher than that of the assistant primary school teachers. Is it right? So, we want our proper respect."
