A shipment of 231,840 eggs has been imported into the country through the Benapole port in Jessore from India.

This shipment was submitted for customs clearance by Benapole's C&F agent, Ratul International, on Wednesday morning.

The shipment arrived at Benapole port around 9pm on Tuesday.

According to Benapole customs sources, a total of 1,159,200 eggs have been imported from India in five shipments between September 8 and October 29. To increase supply and reduce market prices, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) issued an order to lower customs duties on October 17. This order reached Benapole customs on October 20.

Following this, a shipment of 231,840 eggs was brought in on October 21.

The importing company is Hydroland Solution, and the exporting company is Sri Lakshmi Enterprise from India.

Ikramul Hasan Sajib, a representative of the importing company Hydroland Solution, said that the shipment has been cleared under the newly set customs duties. The clearance of eggs started on October 21 with a 5% duty. Today marks the second shipment cleared under the same duty. Previously, a duty of Tk1.96 was paid per egg, but due to the reduced duty, only Tk.76 is now paid per egg.

As a result, these newly imported eggs can be sold in the market at a price of Tk9 each.
