Goethe-Institut Bangladesh is celebrating the 6th year of the Science Film Festival, with ten local partners in Bangladesh.
The partners include Aspire to Innovate (A2i), Human Development Media, Kishor Batayan (Konnect), Alokito Hridoy Foundation, JAAGO Foundation, Netz Bangladesch, Bigganchinta and PASCH-Schools: Partners for the Future, Maple Leaf International School, European Standard School (ESS), Oxford International School (OIS), Mastermind International School in Chittagong.
The festival will feature 26 films in a hybrid format, enabling both offline and online attendance is running from October 1 to December 20, 2024.
The opening ceremony will take place on November 02, 2024, in the Dhanmondi premises of the Maple Leaf International School. The ceremony will be inaugurated by Silke Schmeer, Cultural Attachee of German Embassy Dhaka and Frank Werner, Director of the Goethe-Institut Bangladesh. To celebrate this year’s theme ‘Net Zero and the Circular Economy’, the programme will host a short film screening, magic by Rajib Boshak and followed by a puppet show by Inventors’s Puppet and performances by renowned folk band Joler Gaan.
A selection of 26 films will be in view for the Bangladesh audience where filmmakers, educators, students and film enthusiasts can watch the films through registration. To create a better reach for the audience, six films have been dubbed in Bengali. Along with screening of the films, workshops for students and educators, quiz and science talks will be carried out throughout the festival time.
Online screening of the films, local partners will screen the films in selected venues. To add to the excitement, Goethe-Institut Bangladesh in partnership with Bigganchinta is organizing a national science quiz competition titled ‘Science Quiz of Science Film Festival 2024 in Bangladesh’. This Science Quiz takes place both online and offline. After conducting the online competition in October, Goethe-Institut will hold the offline competition on the morning of November 2, 2024.
The Science Film Festival is a celebration of science communication in Southeast Asia, South Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Latin America: In cooperation with local partners, it promotes science literacy and facilitates awareness of contemporary scientific, technological and environmental issues through international films with accompanying educational activities. The event has grown considerably since its first edition in 2005, becoming the largest event of its kind worldwide. And this year it is committed to increase the awareness on the issue of diversity and inclusiveness in the STEM fields from underrepresented groups.
