University of Asia Pacific (UAP) organized a discussion program titled “Chiley Kothar Shepai Theke Kangkhito Bangladesh” on Saturday (2 November 2024) in the university’s auditorium. Professor Dr. Khalequzzaman Elias of Department of English Language and Literature, Jahangirnagar University, Professor Abdus Selim from General Education cadre and Professor Dr. Firdaus Azim, Department of English Language and Literature, BRAC University graced the event as panel discussants.
Professor Dr. Md. Sultan Mahmud, Pro Vice Chancellor of University of Asia Pacific gave the welcome speech at the program. University Press Limited has launched a book fair which is being held at University of Asia Pacific premises from 2 to 6 November 2024.
The discussants exchanged views on different aspects of two celebrated novels by iconic Bangladeshi author Akhteruzzaman Elias—Chiley Kohtar Shepai (The Soldier in The Garret) and Khoabnama (Tale of Dreams). The speakers focused on vital political and historical issues that made these two fictional works famous. They also laid emphasis on the connections between these two novels and the Non-Cooperation Movement of 1969, the Liberation War of 1971 and the Mass Upsurge that led to the fall of the immediate past regime in August 2024.
Associate Professor Dr. Zakia Ahmed, Head of Department of English Language and Literature, University of Asia Pacific, Associate Professor Takad Ahmed Chowdhury and Assistant Professor Sabrina Islam of the same department spoke on the occasion among other dignitaries.
