The authorities of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) have suspended five teachers including two former vice-chancellors and two pro-vice chancellors of the university following allegations of obstructing students from participating in the July-August anti-discrimination students' movement.
They also suspended six officers and one employee of the University for getting illegal appointments to their posts, Registrar of KUET Eng. Md Anisur Rahman Bhuiyan confirmed BSS on Thursday.
Giving details, he said the decision was taken at the 94th syndicate meeting of KUET in line with findings of the probe committee report that found their involvement in the above mentioned charges.
The meeting was held on November 21 with KUET Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Masud in the chair.
The primary probe report found that the suspended teachers were directly involved in obstructing students in joining the anti-discrimination students movement during the July-August mass uprising by using political influences. They also found guilty in oppressing teachers and students many times to thwart the movement, the Registrar said.
The suspended teachers are- former Vice-Chancellor (VC) and incumbent Professor of the Department of Mechanical Engineering Dr Mihir Ranjon Halder.
, former Vice-Chancellor and incumbent Professor of the Department of Civil Engineering Dr Muhammad Alamgir, former Pro-VC Dr Shibendra Shekhar Shikder and incumbent Professor of the Department of Physics, former Pro-VC and incumbent Professor of the Department of Mechanical Engineering Dr Sobhan Mia and Professor of the Department of Computer Science Dr Pintu Chandra Shil.
The suspended officers and employee are- Deputy Registrars- Nimai Chandra Mistry and Debashish Mondal, Assistant Director of the Public and Information Section Monoj Kumar Majumdar, Assistant Comptroller G M Abu Sayeed, Assistant Programmer Md Omor Faruk, Assistant Technical Officer Md Mehedi Hasan Rajon and Office Assistant Sattyjit Kumar Dutta.
