Seven arrested for illegal sand lifting in Chandpur

Members of Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) detained seven people for illegal sand lifting from Meghna river in Chandpur on Sunday. Two dredgers machine were seized on the occasion.

Lieutenant Commander Md Siam-Ul-Haque, media officer of coast guard headquarters, confirmed the matter on Sunday noon.  He said, "Acting on a tip-off, a coast guard team from BCG Station Chandpur conducted a special operation at Baherchar Bazar and Nasirakandi areas under Matlab North Thana in Chandpur. During the drive, coast guard members apprehended seven individuals involved in illegal sand mining and two dredgers."

The estimated market value of the seized dredgers is 16 million taka. The seized dredgers and the arrested individuals have been handed over to Mohanpur Naval Police for further legal action, the media officer added.
