Two bodies go missing from graveyard in Gopalganj

 
Three bodies have been stolen from a graveyard at Kotalipara upazila in Gopalganj district on Tuesday night.  The incident took place a Paschim Chitrapara village under Amtali union of the upazila. When the news spread in the area early on Wednesday, relatives of the people buried in the graveyard rushed there.At that time, the atmosphere in the area became heavy with the cries of the relatives of the stolen bodies. It was seen that six graves were found dug in the Pashchim Chitrapara graveyard. Of these, the bodies of former UP members of Chitrapara village, Liaqat Ali, Chand Mia and Bayzid Hossain, were not found. Mukul Mia of Chitrapara village told reporters that his parents were buried at Chitrapara graveyard. He goes there to visit the graves every day after Fajr prayers.

"Today, as soon as I entered the graveyard, I saw one grave dug. When I looked around, I found six graves dug one by one. Out of these, there were no bodies in three graves. That's when I informed the locals", he added. Salma Khanam, the eldest daughter of former UP member Liaquat Ali, told reporters in a tearful voice, "My father died nine months ago. After his death, he was buried in the graveyard. He was a UP member.

This morning, we received news that my father's body had been stolen from the graveyard. We immediately rushed to see my father's grave dug up. The shroud, body skin and hair were lying next to it. The thieves had taken the bones.''

Chand Mia's son Mahasin Islam told reporters, "My father died four months ago and was buried in this graveyard. When I received the news of the body being stolen, I came here and found that my father's body was not inside the grave."

Kotalipara Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abul Kalam Azad told the Daily Observer police were sent to the spot. Written complaints are being prepared by the families of the victim, and legal action will be taken after investigation.
