DB arrests Meher Afroz Shawon

 
The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police or DMP arrested actress and producer Meher Afroz Shawon from the Dhanmondi area of the capital on Thursday night.

Confirming the matter, DMP Additional Commissioner (DB) Rezaul Karim Mallik told journalists that Shawon has been arrested from Dhanmondi area of the capital on charges of plotting anti-state conspiracy. She was taken to DB office on Minto Road at about 8:15pm.

Rezaul Karim Mallik said that Meher Afroz Shawon would be interrogated under DB custody regarding the allegations about her. Her remand will be sought by raising the specific case in court very shortly, according to the chief of Detective Branch.

Meher Afroz Shawon is acclaimed author Humayun Ahmed's second wife. Meher Afroz Shawon herself is a famed actress, director and singer. Meher Afroz Shawon delivered some speeches through social media which very quickly became viral. She constantly deplored the interim government over various issues and spoke in favour of the ousted Awami League regime which was overthrown by students and masses on 5 August 2024.

The interim government led by Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus took oath on 8 August 2024. Since then raids by the law and order forces have been going on to nab politicians, businessmen, bankers, government officials etcetera who were loyal to fled-away Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina during last 15 years and gained undue privileges including amassment of huge scales of illegal wealth.
