Clouds over Dhanmondi 32 demolition will clear up shortly: Hafiz Uddin Ahmed

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) standing committee member Major (Retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed has said that who demolished Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's residence at Dhanmondi 32 in Dhaka city will be cleared up within 24 hours.

Major (Retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed made the above remark on Thursday while addressing a discussion program focused on Bangladesh's democratic prospects in the capital's National Press Club. He said "What happened on Wednesday is still going on. It is not yet over. We have no specific information about who did it. Neither do we know whether the government had any part to play in this demolition or not. Anyway, we are very much hopeful that the clouds over the question who demolished the house at Dhanmondi 32 will be dispelled within today. We will present BNP's reactions this occurrence to mass media as well as to Bangladesh's people when full facts and figures will be available. It's better not to make any comments on this attack with incomplete information".

Major Hafiz Uddin Ahmed (Retd) expressed suspicion that some vested quarters might have done it to obstruct the smooth progress of democracy in Bangladesh. Some troublemakers are always on their toes to create hazards, he further said making allusions to a particular neighbouring country's probable involvement in the assault on Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's house in Dhanmondi. Major (Retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed laid emphasis on countrywide firm unity to thwart any conspiracy by ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to destabilize Bangladesh. Hafiz Uddin Ahmed called upon students, politicians, civil society members and all anti-fascist platforms to get united immediately who participated in the successful accomplishment of the Glorious July Revolution.

Hafiz Uddin Ahmed deplored Sheikh Hasina and her overthrown party Awami League for doing egregious magnitudes of corruption and nepotism to accumulate countless sums of money in illegal ways and to amass wealth by means of theft and plundering to fatten the coffers of themselves and their family members. Hafiz Uddin Ahmed cited one of the clerks who worked under Sheikh Hasina and who made 400 crore taka during Sheikh Hasina's ruling period. The entire Sheikh Mujib's family is a den of corruption, power abuse and human rights violations, Hafiz Uddin Ahmed commented.

He requested the interim government to accomplish reforms soon and to restore democracy without delay by organizing elections. According to Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, Dr. Muhammad Yunus should not resort to cheap ploys to defer elections only for keeping BNP out of power. Such tricks are very much familiar with BNP leaders and activists, Hafiz Uddin Ahmed warned.

The view exchange meeting was presided over by Abu Nasser Muhammad Rahmat Ullah, President of Shwadhinata Forum. It was moderated by Vice President Ishtiaque Ahmed Bablu. BNP leaders Habibur Rahman Habib, Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, Abdus Salam Azad, Hafizur Rahman, AKM Rezaul Karim spoke on the occasion among some other discussants.
