IU Shibir exchanges views with followers of different faiths

Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir Islamic University (IU) unit on Thursday organized a view exchange program with the followers of different religious faiths. The program was arranged followed by Shibir's 48th founding anniversary at the TSCC area.

During the event, many students from different religions including, Hindu, Christian, Buddhist, Chakma were present there. They expressed their concerns and thoughts through this program.Hindu student Tushar Malakar said, 'During the month of Ramadan, hall dining remains shut. Due to which many students suffer from food in this month. It becomes difficult to find food near the campus area also.'

However, it is seen that some dorms cook beef curry and use the same utensils to cook fish and other curry. It is a very sensitive issue for us, he added.Christian student Pradip Kumar Das said, 'We all secured our places in the university based on merit.

The university is for people of all religions, and the motherland belongs to all of us. No one will step back from the pull of the motherland. With merit and integrity, we will all unite to move the country forward.'

Buddhist student Montu Chakma said, 'People of Hill Tracts have always suffered numerous challenges throughout their entire lifetime. Our lifestyle has differences due to our culture.

Even after admitting to University, we face these problems. Though many residential halls have separate rooms for the followers of different religions, Sheikh Russel hall doesn't provide these facilities.'

Listening to their opinions, IU Shibir President Mahmudul Hasan replied, 'Shibir is an ideological student organization. We will spread our ideology, you spread yours. If you like ours then you're welcome and if not then it's also okay. Islam has never forced its beliefs on followers of any other religion. Everyone should live their life according to their own faith. We will request the administration to ensure that no departmental programs are scheduled on the religious holidays of other faiths.'

Our constitution is for the students, not for any specific religion. Every article of our constitution is crafted for the welfare
of the students. Our doors are always openfor all studentsregardless of their religion, he added.
