No election without reforms: Jamaat

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has called upon the Election Commission (EC) to conduct polls after 'urgent reforms'.

Jamaat Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar said this to the media after leaving the meeting at the Election Building in Dhaka on Thursday.

A six-member delegation led by Mia Golam Parwar participated in the meeting. Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin and four election commissioners were present. Parwar said, "We have clearly told the Election Commission that no election must be held in the country without reforms."

Jamaat-e-Islami is ready to give as much as time needed to make reforms to make the elections free, fair and impartial, he said, adding that for this, Jamaat-e-Islami has not set any date, time or time limit. The Jamaat delegation included assistant secretary general and former MP Hamidur Rahman Azad, central committee executive member and secretary of the publicity and media wing Advocate Matiur Rahman Akand, central committee executive member Advocate Muhammad Jasim Uddin Sarkar and Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Kamal Uddin.
