Orion Group Chairman Obaidul Karim faces travel ban

 
A Dhaka court has slapped travel ban on Orion Group Chairman Obaidul Karim and three of his family members in connection with a petition from Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) on Monday. Obaidul Karim's wife Arjuda Karim, son Salman Obaidul Karim and daughter Zerin Karim have been placed under travel ban too, according to ACC Assistant Director Aminul Islam.

ACC officials have informed that investigation is underway to examine money laundering allegations about Obaidul Karim. There is strong likelihood for the above allegations to be proven true initially, ACC investigators have stated.

According to ACC, the individuals named above were trying to fly overseas which is why ACC applied to court for travel ban on Orion Group Chairman Obaidul Karim and his family members.

Earlier on, Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) issued orders to all banks to freeze bank accounts belonging to Obaidul Karim and his family members in September 2024. National Board of Revenue (NBR) also previously provided information to ACC about Obaidul Karim's direct links with financial vices.
