Dhaka Mohanagar Nattyo Utshab was scheduled to be held in the capital's Uttara on 15 February 2025 but the program had to be halted by organizers when obstructions came certain influential quarters.
Cultural activists wanted to host a Spring Festival in Uttara, Dhaka on 14 February 2025 but this event could not be implemented either for similar reasons.
A number of identical occurrences have taken place in some parts of Bangladesh and Dhaka city on 14 February 2025 which marked both Valentine's Day and first day of spring but cultural soirees aiming to promote these occasions were heavily obstructed by some people. So, these programs were not eventually held.
Reportedly the authorities concerned did not take any remarkable steps to deal with these unwanted interruptions which stopped normal and traditional cultural activities.
Social scientists have expressed the opinion that the role of the local government is facing interrogative signs as Bangladesh's longstanding cultural heritage is being undermined and disrespected. In most of the cases a group of people called "Towheedi Janata" (pious masses) reportedly forced organizers to call off these cultural shows.
A drama festival was supposed to be held in Dhaka Mohila Samity Auditorium on Saturday afternoon. This festival was supposed to go on from 15 to 28 February 2025 but these stage plays had to be cancelled since aggressive threats came from some bigots, according to cultural platforms who spoke to BBC on this phenomenon.
However, Dhaka Metropolitan Police has told journalists that no such directives were issued by police force to postpone cultural programs.
