Eminent  entrepreneur Manzur  Elahi passes away

Eminent business personality, who was the chairman of Apex Group, Syed Manzur Elahi passed away at the age of 83 on Wednesday morning.

Syed Manzur Elahi breathed his last while undergoing medical treatment at Gleneagles Hospital in Singapore at 9:31 am local time (7:31 am Bangladesh time) on Wednesday.

He had been suffering from various complications related to old age for some time. His son, Apex Group Managing Director Syed Nasim Manzur, was by his side during his final days.

Syed Manzur Elahi, an alumnus of Dhaka University, had a master's in economics. He was the founding chairman of Apex Footwear Ltd, Apex Tannery Ltd, Pioneer Insurance Co Ltd and Mutual Trust Bank Ltd.

He was also appointed adviser to the caretaker government of Bangladesh, twice (1996 and 2001).

Syed Manzur Elahi also played a crucial role in pioneering shoe exports from Bangladesh to Europe. At one stage, he partnered with the Italian footwear businessman Adelchi, further strengthening his presence in the global market.

Born in 1942, Elahi has an inspiring entrepreneurial journey. He led major business chambers and won various awards, including the lifetime achievement awards by DHL and The Daily Star, for his contribution to trade and industry.
