The newly constructed school building of Shree Janakalyan Secondary School in Makawanpur, built with financial assistance from the Government of India under the Nepal-India Development Cooperation, was inaugurated today.
The project, completed at a cost of NRs. 30 million, was jointly inaugurated by Lalit Bahadur Ghalan, Chief of the District Coordination Committee, Makawanpur, and Basist Nandan, First Secretary of the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu. The ceremony was attended by political representatives, government officials, social workers, teachers, students, and parents.
The Government of India’s grant supported the construction of the school building and associated facilities under the High Impact Community Development Project (HICDP), executed through the District Coordination Committee, Makawanpur.
Established in 1968 as a primary school, Shree Janakalyan Secondary School was upgraded to a higher secondary school in 1985. Currently, it serves around 850 students, with 54% of them being girls.
During the event, local authorities, school representatives, and other stakeholders expressed their gratitude for India’s developmental assistance, emphasizing that the new infrastructure would enhance educational opportunities and create a more conducive learning environment for students. They highlighted its contribution to the broader development of the education sector in the region.
As close neighbors, India and Nepal share a strong partnership, engaging in multi-sectoral cooperation. The implementation of HICDPs underscores India’s continued commitment to supporting Nepal’s growth by strengthening infrastructure in key sectors, fostering long-term development, and improving the well-being of the Nepali people.
