They want independence to continue plundering: Nahid Islam

Convener of National Citizens Party (NCP) Nahid Islam has vociferated over the debate going on about Bangladesh's first and second independence.

Nahid Islam said at a program on Thursday "We have undergone inhuman torment and repression for last 15 to 16 years. We have gained independence for the second time on 5 August 2024. We were severely victimized by a fascist regime from 2009 to 2024. That's why 5 August is certainly our second independence day."

Nahid Islam further said "Some opposition politicians compromised with the ruling authorities during last 15 years with their fattened up bank balance intact. These unscrupulous political leaders don't regard 5 August as the second independence day because they have always enjoyed freedom, even during the immediate past ruling party's tenure. These immoral people don't care about first or second independence day. What matters most to them is the independence to continue plundering."

Nahid Islam stated that Bangladesh has been able to formulate an independent and sovereign foreign policy through the July Revolution. National interest will have top priority in the Bangladesh which was achieved through the overthrow of fascist rulers on 5 August 2024, Nahid Islam asserted.
