A daylong cultural soiree titled “Khonar Mela” or Khona’s Fair was held at Angaroa village in Kendua upazila under Netrakona district was held on Sunday on account of the traditional Chaitra Sankranti. The cultural renditions included folk songs, poetry recital, mystic songs, telling pastoral stories, folktales, astrology etcetera, according to a press release issued by Cool Exposure on Saturday.
Singer Sunil Karmaker, troubadour Mia Hossain and Shefali Gayen rendered musical performances during the above events. Among other musicians, Kafil Ahmed, Krishnakali and her band, Band Shohojia, Musa Kalim Mukul, Fakir Shaheb, Nupur Sultana, Dudu Kanchan and Dulal Chishti entertained the audiences with their artistic talent.
Author and researcher Pavel Partho, agrarian movement leader Delwar Jahan, poet Ahmed Naqib, cultural activist Baki Billah, singer Beethi Ghosh, cultural organizer Abul Kalam Al Azad and folklore scholar Rakhal Bishwas performed during the cultural function. Cultural Affairs Ministry, local entertainers and media communications agency Cool Exposure facilitated the entire ceremony, the press release added. It may be recalled that Khonar Mela generated a great deal of vibration in 2024 during a similar cultural arrangement marking Chaitra Sankranti in which singers, minstrels and recital artistes from Netrakona, Mymensingh and Kishoreganj districts participated, the press release concludes.
