IU Correspondent: The authorities of Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia celebrated Pahela Baishakh with grand arrangements two days later on Wednesday. Marking the day, IU campus turned into a festive atmosphere immersing Bengali culture.
The day started with a massive and colourful procession led by IU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Nakib Muhammad Nasrullah along with Treasurer Professor Dr Jahangir Alam, Registrar Manjurul Haque, faculty deans and more than thousand students from different departments, teacher's, office staff, residential halls, political and cultural organizations.Starting from the administrative building, the rally concluded at the 'Bangla Mancha' near the Theology and Islamic Studies faculty building.
During the rally, different departments and cultural-political organisations showcased Bengali culture through various outfits and arrangements. Some dressed up as bride and groom, while others reflected the spirit of equality by wearing religious attire.
The event also featured the familiar scene of a wedding procession on a traditional buffalo cart. The plough and conical hats of village
farmers were seen to be worn by students to portray rural farming community.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Nakib Mohammad Nasrullah said, "Today's procession is a festival of joy for us. It is a part of the continuity of Bengali and Bangladeshi culture. The unity we have built through the anti-discrimination student movement will serve as the foundation for building the Bangladesh of tomorrow. With this unity, we will move forward on the path of education and research."
At the end, he extended his thanks and best wishes to everyone at the university for their participation and support in the event.
Later a discussion meeting and cultural function was held at the Bangla Mancha area. VC Nasrullah addressed the event as chief guest while treasurer Professor Jahangir Alam, student advisor Professor Dr Obayedul Islam, proctor Professor Dr Shahinuzzaman, Arts faculty dean Professor Dr Amtaj Hossain were also present there.
