Fire at artist's home in Manikganj, 8 sent to court


Eight individuals arrested in connection with the fire at artist Manbendra Ghosh's house in Manikganj have been sent to court by the police.

The arrested individuals were produced before court around 3:30 PM on Thursday.

The arrested are Khan Md. Rafi Srijon, 18, from Panjonkhara village under Sadar upazila; Al Amin Khan Tamal, 22), from Chandair village; Moin Uddin Ahmed Piyas, 22, from Panjonkhara village; Md. Babul Hossain, 60, from Bara Shatta; Md. Mir Maruf, 21, from South Uthli; Mir Aminur, 26, from South Uthli; Md. Mosharraf Hossain, 48,from Onnoypur, Shibaloy; Sanjib Ghosh, 40, from East Dashora.

According to police sources, they carried out operations after the incident and managed to arrest all eight by this noon. The suspects were presented before the court with a request for a 7-day remand. All of them are reported to be activists or leaders affiliated with Awami League and its associate organizations.

Earlier, the fire was allegedly set by miscreants following threats made against artist Manbendra Ghosh over the creation of motifs for Pahela Boishakh celebration procession.

The incident occurred around 2:30 AM on Tuesday at Chandair Ghosher Bazar area of Garpara union in Manikganj Sadar upazila.
