Soumitra Dev, renowned poet, journalist and cultural figure, passed away at 9 am last Tuesday (April 15) while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kurmitolain the capital. He was 55.
He was suffering from various physical complications including respiratory problems for a long time.He is survived by his only son, wife and three sister along with many well-wishers.
While talking to the The Asian Age, Pola Dev, wife of Soumitra Deb, said, "My husband were suffering from breathing problems for a few days. On Tuesday morning, April 14, he suddenly felt very ill. He was then rushed to a private hospital in Khilkhet area. Later, the doctor on duty declared him dead."
To mention, Soumitra Dev started his career as journalist in local newspapers in Sylhet and Moulvibazar. Later, he wrote as a contributor for Prothom Alo.
Then, he joined the Daily Manabjamin as an assistant editor. After working in this position for a few years, he has been serving as the editor-in-chief of the online newspaper RedTimes.com.bd since 2009.
