Father killed for protesting daughter's eve-teasing in Rajshahi

A father was killed after being hit with bricks for protesting against eve-teasing of his daughter in Rajshahi city.

The incident occurred around 10:30 PM on Wednesday at Talaimari Shahid Minar area of the city. The deceased was identified as Akram Hossain, 45, a bus driver and member of Rajshahi District Motor Workers Union.

According to family members, some local youths often harassed Akram's daughter. When he protested against this, the youths allegedly went to his house and threatened him.

At one point, on Wednesday night, they attacked Akram with bricks, leaving himcritically injured. Later, family members rescued and took him to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital Hospital (RMCH), where he succumbed to his injuries. The victim's family claimed that Nantu, Bishal, Ratan and several others from the area were involved in the attack.

Confirming the matter, Boalia Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Mostaque Hossain said that police visited the scene and the body has been sent to RMCH morgue for autopsy. Efforts are underway to arrest the accused, the OC added.
