Three renowned physicians remembered

Three renowned physicians Rotarian Dr Patrick Bipul Biswas, founder of Rajshahi Cancer Hospital, Prof Dr Shubhaguto Choudury, former principal of Chattogram Medical College and Bangla Academy award-winning writer, and celebrated gynaecologist Dr TA Chowdhury have been remembered.

A prayer and memorial meeting was held at the Jatiya Press Club in the capital on Friday (April 18, 2025) on the occasion.

Community Oncology Center Trustee and Bangladesh Breast Cancer Awareness Forum Chief Coordinator Prof Dr Habibullanlh Talukder Raskin delivered the opening speech and conducted the programme.

Prof Saria Tasnim, ex-executive director of the Institute of Child and Mother Health and Community Oncology Center Trust Chairperson, Dr Halida Hanum Akhter, noted reproductive health expert and member of women's affairs reforms commission, Dr Nezam Uddin, pioneering palliative care expert, Dr Abu Jamil Faisal, a public health expert, Prof Dr  Mohammad Shahidullah, Brac James P Grant School of Public Health Dean Prof Moloy Kumar Mridha, World Cancer Society Bangladesh President Syed Humayun Kabir, Prof Shubhaguto Chowdury's wife Mrs Kamana Chowdhury, Dr Patrick Biswas' daughter Dr Ipshita Biswas, her husband Dr Ovi Chakraborty, former additional secretary Abdul Hakim Majumder, Oporajita Society Against Cancer Chairperson Tahmina Gaffar, COC Trustee Rotarian Shahana Alam, journalist and writer Asif Nabi, Center for Cancer Care Foundation Secretary Jahan E Gulshan Shapla, Harmony Trust's Shahida Elora, Cancer Jatiya Kobita Parishad President Poet Mohan Raihan, journalist Hasan Misbah, Rotarian Syed Aftabuzzaman and Dr Rina Pal spoke at the programme, among others.

The speakers discussed the lives and works of three pioneering physicians and made pledges to work for the welfare of people upholding the ideologies of the trio.
