IU students demand justice for Natore rape victim

A group of students from Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia staged a protest on Friday demanding justice for a seven-year-old girl who was raped and murdered in Natore. Natore Students Welfare Association of IU organized a human chain regarding this in front of the central mosque after the Juma prayer.

The victim, Jui, was brutally killed allegedly after being raped in Natore's Baraigram upazila.  She was the daughter of Malaysian expatriate Jahirul Islam of Garfa village in the upazila.

Eyewitnesses said, her face was found burnt apparently by acid. Mentioning the law and order situation in Bangladesh, students said.
According to the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, 2000, Justice should be served within 180 days. But in the meantime, 180 more rape occurs in this country. Therefore, justice must be served within seven days, they demanded.

Professor Dr A T M Mizanur Rahman of Applied Nutrition and Food Technology department said, "These rape cases aren't acceptable. We want to see a changed Bangladesh. Today we are protesting at the Islamic University and we will continue to stand against these crimes until exemplary punishments are assured."
