Dengue: 2 more die, 386 newly hospitalized
 
Two more people have died of dengue over the past 24 hours, while 386 new patients have been hospitalised across the country, bringing the year's death toll from the Aedes mosquito-borne disease to 81.

Since January, a total of 20,702 people have been admitted to hospitals with dengue.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services, the two who died in the past 24 hours were admitted to a hospital in the Dhaka South City Corporation area, bdnews24 reports.

July has recorded the most deaths from the disease this year, with 39 as of Jul 30. In addition, 19 deaths were reported in June, 10 in January, three in February, seven in April, and three in May. No deaths were recorded in March.

The month of July also saw the highest number of dengue cases, with 10,406 patients admitted to hospitals.

In addition, 5,951 patients were admitted in June, 1,161 in January, 374 in February, 336 in March, 701 in April, and 1,773 in May.

Over the past 24 hours, Barishal Division has recorded the highest number of new admissions, with 106 patients admitted.

A total of 78 patients were admitted in the two city corporation areas of Dhaka, 62 in the rest of the Dhaka Division, five in the Mymensingh Division, 64 in the Chattogram Division, 23 in the Khulna Division, 45 in the Rajshahi Division, and three in the Rangpur Division.

Currently, 1,289 dengue patients are receiving treatment across various hospitals in the country. Of them, 348 are admitted to hospitals in Dhaka, while 941 are being treated in hospitals outside the capital.

In 2024, Bangladesh saw 101,211 dengue patients admitted to hospitals, with 575 fatalities. This marks the third-highest number of hospital admissions and the second-highest death toll due to dengue in the country.
