Marking the Bangla Poetry Day, a day-long book fair was organized on Saturday at the premises of the Kachi-Kancha Academy in Nayanpur under Gazipur Sadar Upazila.
Besides, poem readings, recitations, unveiling of new book covers, presentation of the Sajjad Qadir Memorial Award, discussions and musical performances were also organized on the occasion.
A discussion was held with Iqbal Siddiqui Education Society President Shawkat Siddiqui was in the chair. The program was moderated by lecturer Shahana Akhter Shila while Iqbal Siddiqui Education Society Chief Executive and Member Secretary Haider Siddiqui Uday delivered a welcome speech on behalf of organization.
Poet Bakul Ashraf and administrative officer Mithun Siddiqui delivered commemorative speeches on the Poetry Day. In the morning, the Poetry Day was inaugurated by the wife of the late poet and multi-dimensional writer Sajjad Qadir, Mr. Afruna Babli, his younger
brother Shahnoor Mahmud and poet Bakul Ashraf by releasing 12 white pigeons.
The book fair was inaugurated by former principal of Tongi Government College, Professor Rafiqul Islam, head of the Bengali department of Bhawal Badre Alam Government College, Professor Asim Bibhakar, and cultural figure Liaquat Chowdhury, poet Sayeed Chowdhury and others.
Professor Asim Bivakar, Professor Rafiqul Islam, cultural figure Mr. Liaquat Chowdhury and poet Bakul Ashraf unveiled the cover of the book "36th July Poetry" of poet Mahmud season.
Mr. Afruna Babli, wife of late poet Sajjad Qadir, and his younger brother Mr. Shahnur Mahmud presented the Sajjad Qadir Memorial Award to Monika Debnath Tithi, a meritorious student of class 12 of Iqbal Siddiqui College.
Poets, including 16 renowned publishing houses of the country, participated in the book fair with a total of 16 stalls with various books published by them.
